The fairland command used to build the world was:
fairland 12 150 100 125 0 8 20 25.
Please note: fairland.c was modified to allow the islands to merge. This map has 12 continents and one giant island of about 10,000 sectors. The gold has been stripped out of all sectors except the mountains which have been set to 80 gold. The interest recieved from bars in banks has also been reduced. And finally, there are several new land units and one new plane.
The version report is listed below.
Empire 4.2.11
(KSU distribution 1.04, Chainsaw version 4.00, Wolfpack version 2.11)
The following parameters have been set for this game:
World size is 512 by 256.
There can be up to 99 countries.
By default, countries use their own coordinate system.
An Empire time unit is 1440 seconds long. Use the 'update' command to find
out the time of the next update. The current time is Thu Jun 5 15:39:53.
An update consists of 60 empire time units. Each country is allowed to be
logged in 1440 minutes a day. It takes 8.33 civilians to produce a BTU in
one time unit.
A non-aggi, 100 fertility sector can grow 0.12 food per etu. 1000
civilians will harvest 1.3 food per etu. 1000 civilians will give birth to
5.0 babies per etu. 1000 uncompensated workers will give birth to 2.5
babies. In one time unit, 1000 people eat 0.5 units of food. 1000 babies

The first update for the Pangaea game was last Friday at 8:30 PM local time. Through players votes the game was modified in two ways:
1. Updates occur every 28 hours, 6 days/week.
2. One POGO mil was added to every POGO sector on PANGAEA.
The latter was done under the guise of an alien invasion. The players were warned several times in advance as to when the little green men would be added. Some of the players responded using words like "punk @ss Martians" when welcoming
these guys.
So far, the position of the players in the power report have changed daily. X has declared an alliance with everyone, while Hades has declared war on everyone. You can already feel the love.
As of this writing, no one has found land yet, although it should be happening anytime now. They are just within range according to the fairland statement published earlier. (fairland 12 150 100 125 0 8 20 25)

This is the end of the 4th week of play. Players are reaching 100 tech and 1.0K sectors. The fighting has started and is particularly intense between cochise and No-man as you can see in the news below.
One of our original players dropped out and has been replaced by Anorian.

Carnage wrought by cochise on No-man continues unabated!
No-man agression against cochise has lessened slightly
No-man "makes friends" with Max
Five weeks after start, July 20th, 2003
===============================================
First of all, this week the server crashed when a submarine interdicted a
ship. I posted the problem here in RGE and within a few hours, I had
multiple responses with the help I needed to fix this bug.
Once again, thank you to all that helped.
===============================================
Believe it or not, things are starting to get a little crowded on Pangaea.
80% of the total 12,050 land sectors in this game are taken.
War "rages" on several fronts. The aggression between cochise and No-man
continues as they exchange the same territory with better and better toys.
This week, Oleander attacked Sparta but was driven back well beyond his
original border.
And ... now, yet another game where money is no problem.

cochise wreaks havoc on No-man! Sparta agression against Oleander has lessened slightly No-man wreaks havoc on cochise! Carnage wrought by Sparta on Hades continues unabated! Max wreaks havoc on No-man!
PANGAEA is over. Cochise has a solo win. The win was through domination. Cochise did not destroy any other civilizations, but accomplished the win by grabbing the most sectors and holding them. His power "points" support his declaration of victory. He was first to Pangaea and was successful in colonizing his share of the massive 10K "island" with civs faster than all the other players. Pangaea BridgeFest 2003 Award co-winner(see below) He was able to construct a bridge from his continent to Pangaea thus enabling him to draw on resources from home.
Max, NewB early, came out strong at the beginning, but was unlucky to have chosen a country that was on the opposite side of the world from Pangaea. His allies helped him to get back to the top of the power report and to quickly colonize Pangaea. Max ends the game with the highest tech. He found PromisedLand's continent and succeeded in wiping him from the game. Max and X cooperated and attacked Perdition driving him from Pangaea.
X found Pangaea at about the same time as No-man. He expanded and populated Pangaea very quickly. Through diplomacy he maintained excellent relations with many countries for trade and held his sectors to the end.
Somewhere gradually expanded and expanded ... and expanded. While engaging in some battles, he was successful in avoiding war on a massive scale allowing him to grow and climb the power report.
No-man, lead early in sector count, but was cutoff from access to more sectors on Pangaea by Max and X. No-man was able to surgically attack wesland's continent and seize his capitol. An attack on No-man by cochise and Max in the last week reduced No-man's sector count by a couple of hundred sectors. This attack
came to a screeching halt when No-man was able to reduce his multifront war to just one front with cochise. Since then, they have exchanged sectors, with cochise getting the brunt of the che invasion. ;-) FUN!!! Pangaea BridgeFest 2003 Award co-winner(see below) No-man's people were the happiest of all.
Sparta was unfortunate to have also chosen a country that was far away from PANGAEA. Sparta was attacked by Oleander on an island off of Pangaea, but quickly drove Oleander off of it's shores giving him "what for". Sparta was able to locate Hades' continent and seized the capitol.
Hades get mentioned for declaring war on EVERYONE and holding his land till the end. Even though Sparta captured his capitol, Hades came back and got some blows in too by sinking an aircraft carrier etc.
Oleander had the best educated people in the game. Even though Oleander got spanked by Sparta on an island, he was able to build a colony on Pangaea that survived until the end and maintained the highest education.
Bridges - the Pangaea BridgeFest 2003 award for attempting to pave the sea goes to 2 players: cochise and No-man, who each had built a total of 136 bridge spans and towers.
The remaining players in the bottom half of the power report, by no means less worthy of mention here, have my thanks and respect for playing in this game. The configuration and size of this map made this game more difficult, in time, to play than most.
And, last but not least, my sincere thanks to Geoff Cashman and Markus Armbruster for all the support and assistance with problems I encountered along the way. These guys, plus other folks who took the time to respond to my posts here, helped to make this game not only successful, but possible.
To the members of Wolfpack, past and present - YOU GUYS ROCK! Thanks for your time and efforts.
Below I have included the final power and report.

Sparta and No-man get the prize for sacking capitals profitably.
Somewhere gets the "Where the Heck did he come from" award for steadily climbing the power report.
Bridges - the Pangaea BridgeFest 2003 award for attempting to pave the sea goes to 2 players: cochise and No-man, who each had built a total of 136 bridge spans and towers.
> Announcement from No-man, (#4) dated Mon Jul 14 11:33:39 2003 Hey, the sub interdict fix worked :(, or is that :)
Nm > Announcement from visitor, (#13) dated Mon Jul 21 17:11:01 2003
This has got to be one of the quietest games on record,
announcements wise.
Did you people break your keyboards or something? Sheesh :) > Announcement from Max, (#9) dated Mon Jul 21 21:43:07 2003
BURP!!!
> Announcement from No-man, (#4) dated Tue Jul 22 07:41:45 2003 We are resigning the game to Cochise. A diplomatic pouch was sent to the Big Teepee a few minutes ago stating that No-man was withdrawing from hostilities.
Several factors enter in to this decision, but we will not bore you with them.
We would be open to trade by all, depending on how long we are allowed to continue.
Have fun the rest of the way. Thank you Deity for the challenging world.

> Announcement from visitor, (#13) dated Tue Jul 22 11:47:33 2003 huh? You've got a nation with 1400 sectors. Sure, Cochise is twice your size. So what? Can't you get an ally to help you? News sez...
news 6 === The Bottom Line == cochise seized twenty-three sectors from No-man
So, in six days, you've lost 23 sectors to cochise. That's just 4 sectors a day man. At that rate, it'd take him a year to conquer you...and you're bailing????? What the...?
I pity your allies, if you have any. They'll be swinging in the breeze now.
> Announcement from No-man, (#4) dated Tue Jul 22 13:09:36 2003 Dear Visitor In this game "size" does not matter.
Time does
...and I have none
Now, if you want to take over for me, or, if you want to be the lead co-ruler (and I can introduce you around to the rest of the party) send me an email at
may_i_see_your_passport_please@yahoo.com
and we can chat offline, and if the deity is ok with it I'll give you my password and you can have a go

> Announcement from visitor, (#13) dated Tue Jul 22 15:39:14 2003 Oh no...not this game. Sorry :)
I declined participation early on. Thanks for the offer though.
> Announcement from No-man, (#4) dated Tue Jul 22 15:54:00 2003 Dear Visitor,
Aw come on, walk a mile in my moccassins... or better yet lets get 5 more corulers and we can each take 4 hour shifts, that won't be so bad...
> Announcement from visitor, (#13) dated Wed Jul 23 16:40:42 2003 Like I said, I declined participation early on. I had my reasons, and I'm sticking to them. > Announcement from Sparta, (#1) dated Sun Jul 27 12:16:22 2003
At first, I thought fairland wasn't fair. Being over 100 sectors away from Pangaea and all. But then I realized that POGO gave the lucky ones fodder. Praises Be!!!
> Announcement from Max, (#9) dated Sun Jul 27 13:59:57 2003 I know "fair"land was not fair. I was about that too. Actually about equi-distant either direction. We should have formed SpartaMax! Alas, fair is a place you ride rides! But its all fun. A "visitor" has suggested that this game is over and wonders why we are still playing with over 50% of the world controlled by 2 players. I responded with the fights not over until everyone else gives up or dies. As I see it No-man, Somewhere, X and Sparta have something to say about WHEN its over. In any case I've enjoyed the game and look forward to the rest of it. Good gaming. max
> Announcement from POGO, (#0) dated Mon Jul 28 11:14:21 2003 The game crashed last night during the update due to a conflict with the script that checks to make sure the game is up. I have changed the times this script will run and hope this fixes the problem. The game has been restored to that last backup which happened at just after 4am this morning. The update time this morning was 4:30am. Note: Some of you may have made changes to your country in that time and they will need to be done again. We will skip this mornings update and have a the regular update tomorrow morning at 8:30am central time. The update took about 20 minutes when I checked the game out offline. When it worked OK and I figured it must be the other script that tried to run during the update. That's changed now. If this continnues to be a problem, the game may be over. I'm not sure why the update should take 20 minutes on this machine with plenty of horsepower. regards, POGO

Actually this mission was quite a success. We sent a party of raiders to finance the war against Oleander. Read the news. Check the power chart. Thanks for the money.

> Announcement from Sparta, (#1) dated Tue Jul 29 09:33:51 2003
It seems like it was another long update.
While I'm still having loads of fun, it's obvious the Spartans would have a hard time disputing a victory declaration.
I don't think anyone should be able to win a game without killing someone, but after the Phalanx rolls over cochise's start island, he'd still be quite comfortably ahead on the power chart.
Is this empire, or star trek?
In any event, Praises Be to the Almighty POGO! I'm looking forward to the next game, hopefully in a smaller world.
Surely the larger world helped some players learn a few things which is better for empire in the long run. But you definitely can't have a world this big without nukes. I always say the more sectors, the more micromanagement.
> Announcement from Sparta, (#1) dated Tue Jul 29 09:36:40 2003
You have several new telegrams waiting. You lost your cap, better designate one.
Sound familiar anyone?
Hades, there are aircraft carriers, missile boats, battleships, and landing ships headed in your direction. This time it's really an invasion.Make more bars so we won't be dissapointed.
Fear the Phalanx,

> Announcement from POGO, (#0) dated Tue Jul 29 12:55:00 2003 The update was successful obviously, but the update took almost 15 minutes to process. FYI

I, THE PEOPLE OF COCHISE (POC), have won this game. Good game, I had fun. See you in the funny papers. I would like to thank the deity (POGO), for hosting this game.
THANKS: POC

I thought this game was over already?
> Announcement from No-man, (#4) dated Tue Aug 5 09:37:00 2003 Well, cochise declared...but nobody said peep. Deity hasn't called the game.
> Announcement from POGO, (#0) dated Tue Aug 5 15:43:28 2003 Several people did respond and acknowledged cochise's win. The deity has left this game up for tools development going on by some of the players and to troubleshoot the problems we were having last week. Slow update - resolved, more memory added. Interdiction crashes - still under consideration. Memory leaks - still under consideration.
The deity captured a final power report and report report last friday when the victory was declared. It will be posted to RGE when the swelling in my arm diminishes so it is not painful. No-man acknowledged. Sparta acknowledged. Max acknowledged. X " cochise declared Oleander acknowledged wesland acknowledged
It is painfully clear that cochise won by a large margin. Sorry for the delay in posting. I'm swimming in circles over here. Will post ASAP. Feel free to mame, kill, destroy, whatever at will during the testing phase of the new tools underdevelopment.
Cochise wins a sole victory. Max get an honorable mention for being the only country to wipe someone else out.
> Announcement from POGO, (#0) dated Tue Aug 5 15:50:24 2003 Sparta and No-man get the prize for sacking capitals profitably. This marks the final time I will deity a game that I play in. I have 2 volunteers to deity the next game, details will follow on RGE, wolfpackempire.com, and The Empire News, time permitting. Thanks, POGO (in this case Max)

I need to shut the server down and reboot the machine to clear some
memory leak problem. It'll be right back up.

Sorry Sparta ... didn't get a chance to try and carry out your threat
