Clients and Player Tools


Empire Toolkit 0.1.0
Kevin Morgan has release a newly reworked toolkit. Client writers will be
interested in its C_SYNC handling capabilities. Download the toolkit from
the Empire FTP Archives (ftp://ftp.empire.net/pub/empire/player/tools/).
Those interested should also read the newly revised C_SYNC RFC
(http://www.empire.net/~children/PEA/deity/docs/).

Perl Empire Client 2.8
Ken Stevens' release of pei 2.8
(http://www.empire.net/~children/PEA/player/clients/UNIX/) adds the tool "nmap", which shows sectors reflecting new designations. "pneweff" and "setfood" were also fixed.

Server and Deity Information

Empire Server 3.0.21 Released
Mostly bug fixes, from bugs reported by Keir Novik, Pat Loney, Aaron
Dewell, Ed Down, Jon Wright and Markus Armbruster.

The Empire 3 Server
If you'd like to try running the new server (http://www.empire.net/~children/PEA/deity/server/), it is available on
PEA. The latest release is 3.0.21. Patches to the server can be downloaded from the patch directory (http://www.empire.net/~children/PEA/deity/server/patch/).
The experimental (http://www.empire.net/~children/PEA/deity/server/experimental/)
server is also available. It contains a few changes and is now at
release 3.1.23. Markus Armbruster contributed some portability
patches. Sasha Mikheev added posix style threading. Ken Stevens did a
lot of bug-fixing.

For an up to date list of the changes in the new server, connect to
the Howitzer Blitz (http://www.empire.net/~children/pea_pages/blitzes.html) and type
"info Empire3".

Empire Server Discussion Mailing List

The mailing list, a forum of discussion regarding changes to the server, has been established. If you have time to help with the server project, or would like to participate in the on-going plans, send mail to empire-server-request@empire.net with "subscribe" in the message body. There is an approval process, so any useful information about your interest in the discussion helps.

To receive notification of new server changes and periodic postings of
change proposals, send mail to majordomo@empire.net with the line:
"subscribe empire-announce" in the body of the message.

Empire Discussion List
A more general mailing list is available to all coders, good players, and especially deities. Subscribe to this list to keep abreast of all coding changes by sending mail to empire-list-request@empire.net with "subscribe" in the message body.
