Hey!! Where the hell is everyone? I post a game and no one comes
back in. Geez... after I tried to revive the LOST game, there's hardly 50%
occu[ancy in the world.
If you want a country in FOUND Empire, then contact me ASAP. I
will replace all unbroken countries tomorrow morning The first update is
tomorrow night at midnight CST.
The updates are every night at the same time and are 64 ETUs each.
This isn't a newbie game, but would be a nice spot for a newbie to
get some seasoning. JunkieFest II will open in about 2-3 weeks (that will
be a strictly newbies only game).
Grovel grovel grovel... come play in my game.

Blue coloring on countries in the power charts indicates the eventual winners of the game.
One week after start, February 8, 1994
Well, this is the first update in the FOUND Empire game. Thus far,
not much has happened in the game itself. Lots of people came and went,
but no one has found anyone else yet and no free land has been grabbed as
of this writing.
So, without further ado, I'll drop a power chart here and let you
peruse it. My next post will be sometime near the end of next week
(possibly next weekend), and by that time, hopefully, something more
interesting will happen.

ps -- this is from the Visitor visitor account as usual, you can drop in there
anytime you like and check the game out for yourself.... (gsbux1.uchicago.edu,

Well, yet again... not much has happened on the war front thus
far. We've had a few declarations here and there, but no serious
fighting. I am hopeful that the next week or so will see some good
battles. Some people are gearing up for their war efforts already, so
we should see something interesting next week (or possibly even this
weekend). There are some guns and shells out there and a few people
have a foothold on some of the islands out there, but other than that
most of the action takes place in the annos.
As a reminder -- FOUND Empire took the place of LOST Empire
after that game crashed. The world is big and the oceans are too, so
people have enough land to begin on (50 sector start islands) but it's
often a long journey to your neighbor. The game is on --

midnight CST. Code is Chainsaw 3.31 (with two bug fixes that Tom
applied last month).

Well, the munching has commenced and we have a few casualties.
Things are really starting to heat up now while we separate the men from
the newbies.
Here's a summary of the wars that have gone on thus far --
POE ate Fester
Raupo fluxed Anthropos
Temekula borrowed Northsnow's cap a couple times
LV426 took everything from Ylum, except for his 15 fishing boats
Temekula and LV426 are now carving up Shunsuke
Khazad'ur liberated Boglegton
Australia endeared himself to kanha and his former ally Etruria
Rome and Chowder are now fighting over Utopia scraps
And the best fight thus far -- Bananaland holding out from Amber for about
6-8 updates.
As a reminder -- FOUND Empire is a replacement game for LOST Empire which
crashed about three weeks ago (see my posts here for details). It is a
Chainsaw 3.31 game with 64 ETU updates every night at midnight CST.
There are no spots in this game, do not email me looking for spots... you
won't find anything.

Four weeks after start, March 1, 1994
Well, we're entering the fourth week of FOUND Empire and it looks
like things are boiling down to the group of countries who will be lobbing
those glowing things at one another vying for the win. The last week and
a half has been pretty interesting, and shows just what can happen when
you throw a bunch of ego-maniacs together and tell them to kill one
another at certain time intervals. Freud couldn't be more proud....
The high point of the week (for Bananaland at least) was the
Temekula/Angband gangpile on Amber. They fought hard for about three
hours forcing Rad_Zone to throw up his hands in the air when he got in and
concede the victory to them.
So, the Temekula/Angband alliance moved forward and crunched Amber
into dust. Then, they looked for a new victim and came upon the
Raupo/LV426 alliance (pro'ly the second strongest in the game at that
point). Temekula started to fight Raupo and LV426 joined in too late.
kanha joined in to carve up Raupo and he and Temekula are still fighting
over the battered country-side as this reporter is writing this chronicle.
Panzer was forced to leave the game and had to be replaced. His
replacement, Figland, immediately ran into trouble with about 4 people
piling on him at once with the current jackels looking like -- Arrakis,
kanha and Etruria (who are all quite friendly thus far). Panzer's parting
was a prime example of what not to do and I post it here not as a ridicule
to him, but merely as advice to those who do not know --
> Announcement from Panzer, (#3) dated Sun Feb 20 22:26:15 1994 Damn! Damn!! Damn!!! I'm catching hell from my wife about this game, have been since it started. 'Fraid I'll have to drop out--can't put up with the constant harping at home. Makes me feel like staying at work. So I'm gonna have to punch.
CrackHouse, see if you can find a replacement on r.g.e, I won't have the time
> Announcement from Panzer, (#3) dated Sun Feb 20 22:32:25 1994 Sorry, had to jump off before I finished that last one.
It's been great playing, and I've learned a lot. POE, send a ship over and I'll clear up that debt I owe you.
Etruria, too bad--I was looking forward to our next engagement. Alas, now it cannot be.
Bye, Col. Heinz of Panzer
My response to him should make the error clear, if you didn't pick it
up already (response in annos)
Just a note to people -- try not to do this. It really disrupts the
balance of the game because then the people next to you know that you're
gone and can take advantage of that fact. (End of soapbox speech...)
The other Flux-ing that took place this last week was the POE
destruction of Phnaa. He ate everything and didn't even burp once on the
scraps.
Rockville still has an active captiol, but with only 4 sectors,
he's looking pretty bad. I expect Manifold to get rid of the rest of him
this evening, tomorrow night at the latest.
As a reminder -- FOUND Empire is a replacement game for LOST Empire that
crashed due to some machine problems in late January. I moved the players
over to my machine in a near-identical world (same parms, new start) and
re-started the game. There are updates every night at 00:05 CST (EST + 1
hour) at 60 ETU's per update. The world is fair in resources, but the
islands are pretty far apart in order to make the ship battles more
interesting (which I think they have been, compared to other Chainsaw
games I've been involved in).
And before I end this one with the usual power chart, I'll drop a
couple of the Raupo annos from the last week or so. Although Temekula
and kanha have been beating him up, he still is winning the war-of-words,
so to speak. And so, without further ado....
ps -- Here's the current power report from the Visitor/visitor country.

Six weeks after start, March 16, 1994
Well, the nukes are in the air in full-swing at this point. LV426
was the forst one to set down a glowing present, but he certainly won't be
the last. The biggest piece of news in the game, since the last update is
the announcement by Temekula that he had to leave the game. He found a
replacement player before he had to leave, and the replacement went rather
smoothly. So, Temekula was replaced by Rebma.
It looks like the Angband/Manifold/Rebma alliance is the strongest
in the game thus far. They are really going for it now, and it is quite
obvious that a push by the other world leaders to stop this group is the
only thing left keeping this game alive.
The amount of trading and sub action is incredible. I knew that a
world of this nature (5 sectors min between islands) would create some
really cool naval battles, but never in my wildest dreams could I forsee
anything of this nature. 40% of the ships in the world are subs and trade
ships. On the downside though -- land unit usage has dropped dramatically
as people have more missiles than they do uw's in some cases. (about half
of the 1100 planes in the world are missiles of one type or another... mi's,
abm's, sam's, a-sat's, icbm's, irbm's, slbm's, etc.) This is to be expected
since the missiles can destroy so many units in one shot, but it is a little
sad to watch all those lovely armor 4's and 5's get toasted by a medium
warhead in just the right spot. Makes me wanna bring back the FALLOUT
stuff. ;-)
Since I haven't been able to be on as much as usual recently, my
knowledge of the current status of the game isn't as good as it should be.
But, either way... here's a short update of the munchings and crunchings
since the last update:
Khazad'ur is eating through Talica so slowly that I think Talica must have
done a "des * syrup" before he left. It's taking longer than the 120 year
long 100 Years War. :-)
Rome was trounced last week sometime by everyone and his brother. I dunno
who his diplomacy chieftan is, but he might want to re-read the "friendly
neutrality" sections in Clauswicz again and leave the "fuck you all" policy
to Kublai Khan.
LV426 and his ally Raupo have been spanked for the last week and a half by
the Temekula/Rebma country with Manifold joining in over the weekend. Raupo
is quite gone, but LV426 is still holding on (along with his "puny" $200K
treasury... :-).
That's basically everything I'm up-to-date on...
Due to some unforseen disk problems, I can't include some annos from the
game that I wanted to. I'll include them in my next post (or maybe I'll
post a follow-up tomorrow, if I can get it fixed).

Well, after one machine change, two missed updates, three deities,
accusations of cheating, replacement countries and four months on heavy
battles the end has come to pass --
The alliance of Rebma/Manifold/Angband has won FOUND Empire.
The victory was declared and uncontested yesterday afternoon. So
the game is officially over.
Deity notes:
1) This land/water ratio was very interesting. It made for a really cool
mid-game. In fact, this could've been the best possible setup for any
game that I could imagine. The best part about it was that I stole the
idea from the guy who created the original world. ;-) Everyone started
with a 50 sector start island with about 2-3 free land sectors per player.
All start islands were at least 5 sectors from one another, so the naval
battles were very intense. The land fighting was important too, as were
the usual plane coverage, bombing, paradropping and the like; but navies
really controlled the game much more than they usually do. Due to the
fact that free land was scarce (shitty is probably more accurate), people
had to take over one another to get anywhere. So, they had to prepare
huge invasion forces, but couldn't rely on one big push because they would
be thrown right back off. So, they had to prepare balanced wave attacks
that were much more calculated and provided the defender with a much
better method of defense. But, still true to the nature of all Empire
games -- if the war's on your land, you've probably lost already.
2) There were quite a number of people who were wet behind the ears. In
fact, I can count on one hand the number of people who've played a dozen
or more games. I dunno if no one was interested in this one (I know of
at least 3 exp'd countries in the original game that didn't join this one
due to the problems of the LOST game), or what.... but it seems like many
people were asking some basic questions and VERY few people besides myself
knew the answers.
3) Replacement countries became a bit of a problem due to the spring break
and whatnot. Running a game that trickles over the interims is usually
pretty bad. I handled it in JunkieFest pretty easily, but wasn't really
ready for it here (due to my own scheduling problems), so I had to rush
around a bit and worry more.
4) Chainsaw still needs some mods. In talking with Tom a little here and
there, it seems as though there are a few bugs out there that really need
someone to look into them. Some are pretty deep into some really old shit,
so no one wants to get their hands in there and get really dirty and find
out what's up with them (I don't blame them, cause I don't have the time or
the desire either).
5) Docs.... this is a reminder to everyone. I'm in contact with Geoff and
Chad, but if you have something for them -- send it. Chad's writing up
some stuff for deities and Geoff's getting the User's Guide updated with
all the Chainsaw mods. There's a big need for this right now, and if we
don't act now, the game could die out because the docs and stuff are *WAY*
outta date and the learning curve is getting steeper by the minute.
6) If you need to leave a game, find a replacment player ON YOUR OWN!!! and
let the deity know. Try not to announce that your country will be
undefended due to your trip to Hawaii or whatever. Just shutup and say
nothing. If you need to leave a parting comment/disclaimer/whatever, then
email it to your deity and have him/her anno it for you. The deity is
responsible for covering your ass and making sure everyone knows you are
gone *AFTER* *AFTER* *AFTER* you have a replacement and have left with your
passport and visa to Costa Rica or wherever the hell it is people seem to
wander off to.
7) Che can wander into the oceans and right up on shore somewhere else...
be ready for it. Something that might be nice in the docs (<wave> Hi Geoff!
;-)....
8) As a disclaimer -- I had to replace a country in FOUND with two people
who had been playing another country in FOUND, but got wiped out early on.
This was completely unavoidable (somewhat). I tried to get a replacement
player for someone (which IS NOT THE JOB OF THE DEITY... NO NO NO NOT NOT
NOT), but couldn't find any takers. But, I had to get someone in there
asap because this country was the highest on the power chart and was very
much involved in the status of the game. If I didn't find a replacement
fast, then this country would sink and the game could decay (ie. his
allies start to drop out, half the world sits there comepletely unplayed,
etc.). So, I had to make a management decision -- Amber replaced Temekula
and the game moved on. I don't believe in doing this, but felt really
under the gun (especially since the original owner left rather suddenly
and didn't find anyone other than Amber to replace him). I tried my best
to email a bunch of players and get someone in under 5-6 hours or whatever
but couldn't. So, I *reluctantly* put Amber back in as Rebma in charge of
the country Temekula once had.
Thanks to all the countries who played. It was as much for me as most of
you (I think). Here's the final power chart from yesterday, and a repo *
from today....

That and the clamy, squid like eyes of the Temekulian populace. " "Hmm" pondered Fellafullafaecies. "Did you try taunting them? Or building a wooden rabbit?". "No sir.
