Well, that thar is purty much what happend when I done set up that there
Blitz game.
So's heres whats goin on. we'uns gots folks sayin this here news group and
this here game isa dying but this here game empire ain't dead yet!! Cuz....
Bayou Blast III - The Flood is takin apps!!!
This here is the next long term game frum Buford! We'uns had a hoot in the
last two games, but this here time is a bit differnt. The bayou has been
flooded....
After that thar last game I celerbrated a mite too much, drank me a
powerful lot of beer, we'uns talking deity size drinkin. Which, when it come
time to pay that thar rent on th'beer, it done flooded the bayou, so's we
duzent advize y'all t'go swimmin.

shootin t'start the game on Nov 22, wiff the first update on Nov 26 (That be
a Tuesday) The next update after that one is the day after the US
Thanksgivin day, and that update will fire. Christmas schedule will be
announced in the game.

Empiremania, it appeared anyways, had successfully micromanaged his way
to the top of the chart. He was also, from what we could gather, just
a hair behind Metaxis for the tech lead. (Cathouse is a good player).
Then, Metaxis got a good stroke of luck...I believe beep commented
on this earlier in the week...he found Amorica, who had sent out a
raiding party and left his mainland unprotected, and took him out.
Metaxis, RedDog (my country) and Luxuria found out that we were in
the same N/S line of the world, and decided to work together. We'd
clean up the other countries in that N/S stretch, and control the
whole thing, giving us good trade routes and a safe base to take on
the rest of the world from. The Dec. 14th power chart looked like:

Metaxis made good use of his early kill in Amorica to cruise to the
top of the chart, while Empiromana continued a strong 2nd. With the
alliance already worked out, Lux was free to work on his area, and
we were free to battle Krustyland, who had attacked a colony of ours.
(insolent little bugger that he was ;)
The point here being that even though Empiromana might have done
a better job micromanaging his country, getting a bit of a tech
lead on us (except for on Metaxis), etc, bad diplomacy on his
part left him in a weaker overall position at this point. Before
the update on the 20th, things looked like: (meaning, 1 update passed

First, note how much combat took place, with only one update...this wasnt
all "around-the-update" attacks. Again because of successful diplmacy,
our alliance was able to consolidate the entire N/S stretch of the world
by this point...There was a high level of cooperation/coordination between
us, and it paid off big. My country managed to make peace with Krustyland,
and took the forces we would have used on him and took out *two* weaker
countries. (Scree and Incognito). Diplomacy wins again. Empiremania,
apparently working on his own, is only able to grow slowly, so good
micromanagement is no longer a help.
(this is another situation I think the iron PE scheme Ice mentioned
would have been good. Had it been in place, either Scree or Incognito
would have been asked to join us as an iron producer, and not been
killed off...possibly even both of them...)
Empiremania (Cathouse) apparently tried to get others to join him
against us, but the diplomacy was unsuccessful, and by Jan 4th,

And things were pretty much over, with people giving up. Krustyland
and Cathouse, to their credit, resisted...as did Oktoberfest I believe,
but Krusty was overrun and the game ended. (at that point, we bordered
Cathouse). Diplomacy, not micromanagement, won the game.
Note also that the need for raw mil to hold down captured land didn't
slow us down, we just made more mil...and no victims were saved by
che rebellion. All the che/mil control stuff did was mean we had to
make more mil, and shove more in...which we did.
Has the speed of the game changed? Not really; if anything, the
new Wolfpack about units marching thru newly-captured land slowed
us down a bit...that's the change where marching thru a 100%
captured road that has 0 mob costs mob as if it were NOT a road.
To me, the lessons are:
1) diplomacy is way more important than micromanagement
2) the game design needs to find a *good*, *simple* way to
make live fodder more valuable than dead fodder.
I'm sure Scree, Incognito, and GroundZero would agree. :) All
three were located in areas where they would have made great
trading partners.
