Here is a description of Redline from the ruler of Redline himself. "Among the single-most feared nations during the '89 to '95 era and co-winner of the first empire tournament. During the "golden age" era of empire, Redline's business-like approach to war tatooed the community with an un-rivaled 12-0 undefeated record where the country "officially" played. These 12 wins were recorded in prestigious Harvard, Merc, and a host of other games where the competition consisted of empire legends. Among the defeated included Mirkwood, Revelstone, Dorsai, Mithrillien, Afrika Korps, Resvon, Khazad'Ur, Evil Empire, Techno, Rad Zone, Finland, and MANY, MANY others. Redline entered two "unofficial" games mid-way, the first entailed the resurrection of near-death Revelstone in Tourney I. And the second was another fodder reconstruction effort (FRE) for the explicit purpose of bringing down the never encountered Guzzer megalomania machine (Guzzer was touting his superiority to the old-guard legends, honor required someone to respond.) Both were flawless campaigns, of course. Redline's trademark was the systematic destruction of all neighboring countries with devastating quickness. In most cases this was accomplished through a high-output technology sector which is where the Redline name originated. Another Redline hallmark was incredible sector growth which always resulted in an economy capable of wielding the mightiest war machine on the planet. In most games it was not uncommon for Redline to consume 1-2 countries a week. Size was irrelevant and resistance was futile hence the Redline slogan, "If it says 'Made in Redline', it's too late!" Redline's primary allies during the period were Fodderland, Atlantis, Suboceana, and Ultima a.k.a "that damned MIT group". These countries composed the most accomplished alliance in empire history despite propaganda to the contrary. The only other alliance capable of issuing a challenge at the time was GaTech (Dorsai, Revelstone, Metallica). As egos and tempers flared over the early 90's, a challenge was finally issued in one nameless game. From the start the outcome was certain for anyone who had witnessed the MIT/Redline power lawnmower in action. This game was a turning point which heralded the supremacy of the fab-five within the empire community until their eventual retirement. Never let it be said that Redline was without compassion. In rare cases a newbie would attract the attention of the Redline Environmental Protection Agency resulting in a safe zone for said player until the end of the game. In other cases the Redline Department of Justice would champion the cause of an underdog and scorch the oppressor to the envy of even the Sun. And in some instances a sudden change of heart would make the most bitter enemies the strongest of friends (Mirkwood, Tourney I where during a week long hailstorm of downed fighters, burning sectors, and destroyed bars, Redline offered peace, Mirkwood accepted and prosperity ensued). As for nukes, Redline Thermonuclear Industries will reply, "Yes, we like them very much." Redline's favorite nuclear exchange was in the Harvard Nuke-Off Jamboree where Redline and Mirkwood first encountered each other. Relations were hostile as each country amassed sectors to eventually become itchy-trigger-finger neighbors. The result was Redline 50% glass compared to Mirkwood 99% glass which effectively eliminated all remaining challengers and ended the game. The only other victim radiated to a similar extent was Afrika Korps during another nameless game. In fact every AK logon required a celebratory Redline nuke launch to a random AK target. For those who know AK, the comebacks were classic. Above all others, the most favorite foe of Redline was the infamous Soxland. Bitter enemies, Redline never had the luxury of killing the hapless nation since Soxland always found a way to die just before Redline reached jet transport range. In one game, Redline authored the famous "Soxland Lottery" where people placed their bets on who would kill Soxland first which precipitated the humiliated early exit of Soxland. In another game Redline Media Enterprises hosted a series called "In Search Of..." Although Soxland was never found, many interested countries were encountered by the Redline Paratrooper's 101st Division. From atop the Redline Empire Building, the retired general fires up another stogie from the observatory area of his top-floor penthouse and glances left to admire his trophy collection. Reaching back to the right and clicking send on his computer, he eases comfortably into his leather chair and gazes at the vast bustling nation of Redline reaching out to the horizon and well beyond. The sun has recently set and the city is lighting up brilliantly washing the night sky with Redline night-life. Glancing back to his monitor, he notices some recent emails from Mithrillien, Overlord, and AK. They are all the same, asking the familiar old question, "when are you coming back?" As the cigar glows a deep red and later fading into a billowing cloud of exhaled smoke, he replies silently..."when the time is right, when the time is right my friends." In the background, the obsidian black Redline flag with blood red horizontal stripe cracks with a burst of fresh air coming from the east. Looking in that direction, he wonders what the new day will bring..." -Redline |
