Faces (and landscapes) are still glowing from the highly entertaining Exorcism I. Well, in the interest of global conquest, it's time to start the next game. And I call it South Pacific. The details of the game are pretty much written in stone. However I am only going to tell you a few of them. Just rest assured that the game will be more than interesting. And somewhat different from the run of the mill games.
And the details are:
1 - 60 etu update per day at noon EDT.
No weekend update, though I will have weekend play enabled.
Fixed tech (that means tech levels never change)
As the name suggests, the game will be an island based game with a strong emphasis on carriers. Battleships and crusiers have been weakened while carriers and their planes have been strengthened. And they will be necessary for expansion.
So if you are asking yourself "I wonder how I can get in on this great sounding game" just send $5 to (opps, that was a different post). Ahhhhh, just send me the usual information:
prefered e-mail address:
country name:
password (8 char limit please):
skill level (1-10):
Oh, we will be using 4.0.9 code btw. And the top 5 countries are invited to Sean Eddy's appartment after the game is over to drink all his beer and chase his sheep.

Last Call:
This is the last call for players for the South Pacific Game. If you
would like to play, fill out the form below and send it in. If you have
already sent in a registration and do not see your name on the list below,
please resend it. And now for the game particulars:
Game starts may 12.
First update is may 13.
Updates are at noon, EDT.
No weekend updates but there will be weekend play.
Version 4.0.9
Host is 149.84.128.9 (and will soon have a real IP name too).
Port is 6104.
Registration ends Sunday morning, May 11.
Features of the game:
30 sector start islands with one country per island.
Augmented aircraft carrier capability and decreased capital ship capability
Fixed tech levels (ie, the tech level you start the game with is what
you end up with).
There are also lots of other "features" in this game that are, to my
knowledge, 100% unique that will make this game stand out as a one of a
kind. Suffice to say that newer players and the more skilled players
should like the setup. But, you will have to find out what they are for
yourself. I'm not telling.
And here is the famous form:

I'm sure that everyone has played in a game in which somebody reached 1300 planes. Or someone had 30,000 mil. Maybe even both. Welcome to South Pacific, where such stats don't even make the top 10 (11th of 16 viables).
South Pacific started with an interesting premise: everyone started at tech 151, and further tech changes were virtually impossible, and wouldn't lead to further tech toys (other than bridges, tantalizingly out of reach at 152). Everyone started on a 27 sector start island with one golden mountain and two lightly oiled sectors; massively armed but passively defended "Mirkwood" mini-islands separated the combatants, with islands spaced by about seven sectors. Mil were payed for by one civ, all resources were renewable, and units were substantially weakened.
Parsing and his ally Ratsnest (UUCP) were the first to discover a critical feature of these parameters: it was worth it to stick 5000 mil on the mountain to pump out renewable dust and build up a large bars stash. Tedrick (...) was first to realize what they were doing, and eventually became their chief opponent. Meanwhile, various strategies were being employed with some success to take over the Mirkwood islands (first broached by Parsing), which turned out to be of little value other than
as staging points or outposts.
While some continued to wage war on the intervening islands, the foresighted few sought nobler prey, advancing towards the critical limiting resource: the home island mountains. Others chose a course of least time commitment, choosing to massively fortify home islands without expanding (over 75,000 mines have been layed in this game).
After about a month, the top ten stood as follows (recall that Mirkwood is just the diety islands):

Parsing and Ratsnest were allied at this point, as were Cathouse and ... Note that Parsing was already beginning work on his third mountain (>2K dust per turn). UUCP eventually retired from playing Ratsnest, leading to a power vacuum at the top which was filled when Predator joined Parsing. A new Ratsnest eventually joined in as well, and the leaders continud to beat up on the smaller players.
By the beginning of July, things were starting to slow down. Even the little countries were becoming quite built up, and the larger countries were showing reluctance to commit the time necessary for full scale attacks with thousands of planes on huge fleets at great distances through mine-laden seas to heavily defended islands. Even when borders opened between the chief opponents, fighting was limited to minor forays. A victory declaration was tendered by Parsing and Predator, but was opposed by a number of smaller countries that lacked the fear brought on by the threat of a few well-placed nukes.

The game plodded on with a resurgence by the adverse powers (... and a time-
poor Cathouse), but the interest currently seems focused on what will happen to the server when maxint (32768) planes are built, estimated to happen later this week. Server slowdown, huge forces and lack of interest seem to have brought this game about as far as it is likely to go.
So, thanks to Pat Loney for running an interesting game, but it looks like it'll be done a bit prematurely.
